چکیده

The most widely used procedures for the measurement of thiamine in urine are based on the oxidation of the vitamin to thiochrome, which is then extracted into butyl alcohol and measured fluorometrically (1). It has been found possible to omit the butyl alcohol extraction without prejudice to the assay. By utilizing benzenesulfonyl chloride to obtain blank values, as proposed by Urban and Goldman (2), as well as by incorporating certain other minor changes, a procedure has been developed which appears to combine convenience and simplicity with accuracy.

Bilateral ovarian ischemia/reperfusion injury and treatment options in rats with an induced model of diabetes

Objective(s):This study investigated the effects of melatonin, famotidine, mirtazapine, and thiamine pyrophosphate on ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in diabetic rats and evaluated oxidant and antioxidant marker measurement results. It also examined the effects of the drugs aimed at preventing infertility that may result from I/R injury. Materials and Methods: Diabetic rats were divided into ...

Elimination of Chemical and Spectral Interferences in Measurement of Trace Elements in Urine and Blood by Combined Electrodeposition-Electrothermal Atomic Absorption Spectrometry

A combined electrodeposition-ETAAS technique has been applied to the analysis of Pb, Cd, Co, Ni, Cr and Mn in biological samples in order to overcome interferences and to minimize sample pretreatment. It requires minimal sample preparation with the electrolysis process aiding partial decomposition of the organic matrix, adequate for the release and deposition of trace elements. In an initia...

A Study of Acute and Chronic Anti-Nociceptive and Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Thiamine in Mice

Background: Thiamine (VitB1) is a vitamin with various important physiological functions and postulated therapeutic effects.  Its use as an analgesic in neuropathic pain has been undergoing in clinical settings. However, there has been little experimental investigation on this effect. In this study, anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of thiamine were investigated in mice. Methods: T...

Spectrophotometric Determination of Acidity Constants of Thiamine in Water, Water-Triton X-100 Micellar Media Solutions

In this work the acidity constants of Thiamine in water and water-Triton X-100 micelle media solutions, at 25 °C, have been determined spectrophotometrically. To evaluate the pH- absorbance data, a resolution based on the combination of soft-and hard-modeling is applied. The acidity constants of all related equilibria are estimated using the whole spectral fitting of the collected data to a...

The Effect of Ingestion of Nicotinic Acid on the Determination of Thiamine in Urine by the Thiochrome Method*

The present study was prompted by the observation that ingestion of large amounts of nicotinic acid resulted in a relatively large increase in the apparent excretion of thiamine by human subjects maintained on a constant low intake of thiamine. Although the daily excretion of thiamine had been at a fairly constant level, between 20 and 30 y for several months, after administration of 300 mg. of...
